2009 Corvette Caravan
- It began by waving the flag as we greeted our passing Corvette enthusiasts along Interstate 70. Hundreds of Corvettes passed through Columbia.
Then the next morning assembling our own caravan and traveling to Bowling Green, Ky.
Representing the Mid Missouri Corvette Club was Past President- Mike Lubbert, NCM Ambassador- Doc Plue, MMCC Charter Member -Tommy Mallory, Starla Pauley, JW and Melba Hays, Gary and Rebecca Johnson, Larry Morrision and Bob and Vickie Mallory. Our travels were silky smooth as we joined the 2009 Corvette Caravan celebrating the National Corvette Museum's 15th Anniversary.
Over 6000 cars were pre-registered for the event. There were tours of the Corvette factory, seminars, multiple roadtrips and of course the newly expanded National Corvette Museum with displays and raffles galore. We proudly represented our Mid Missouri Corvette Club with three of our attendees being NCM lifetime members. A certificate was also presented to Tommy Mallory for being a NCM member for 10 years.
A donation was made for $1,000 to the National Corvette Museum, representatives of the NCM expresses their appreciation to our entire club and hopes for our continued support. (photo's attached)
There were many high points of the trip, Tommy spent over 10 hours at his book signing "Corvette Stories" with NCM running out of books but replaced quickly with a special delivery order. Larry Morrison tore up the Beech Bend dragstrip with his Z06 "Ghoost" on Saturday night, with multiple runs to hone his skills in the quarter mile. Gary and Rebecca adventured out for fine dining. Gary practiced leading the caravan for a short time, handling the pressure well.. JW and Melba discovered some type of foreign substance on their car which we suspect came from a livestock trailer, however it helped justify us all washing our cars at the hotel. Doc showed us how you can rinse and dry clothes on the road while traveling without stopping.
A great time was had by all.
